Uncle Sam recruiting poster.

This poster is a really good example of a propaganda poster because propaganda is communication for the purpose of persuasion for or against a cause.
When you see propaganda posters they usually have very few words a big picture which stands out and the poster is capable of speaking to the audience almost as if the poster is  directly talking to them. That is exactly what this poster does in all aspects.

This is most likely one of the most famous and long lasting image of Uncle Sam. It was created by James Montgomery Flagg. The poster was created in 1917 as the U.S Army was  recruiting at the time. The poster has little text but as all of the letters are in upper case  and bold it comes across very powerful. Also the fact the chosen colours for the text are black and red with the word 'you' in red makes the poster stand out more. I also found it interesting that the man in the poster is supposedly called 'Uncle Sam' which has the initials U.S.
