---- NEW PROJECT ---- Book Cover

Today is the 12th November and we've just been given a new project, to design a book cover for one of two books either The Big Sleep which is an adult book or The Wind In The Willows which is a child's book, I have chosen to design for the children's book as I think I could come up a good idea for the cover. In this project we're expected to:

  • Produce sketchbooks demonstrating the ability to apply research to the visualisation of concepts.
  • Produce 2D designs that demonstrate the ability to use illustration and image manipulation software applications, and differentiate between vector and bitmapped graphics
  • Produce completed 2D designs that demonstrate the ability to combine image with typographic elements using a combination of graphic and DTP software.
  • Produce a shore statement to accompany designs that demonstrate an understanding of visial communication considerations

  • I should aim to design a striking cover design that is well executed, has an imaginative concept, an original interpretation of the brief, a strong use of typography and clearly places the book for its market.
  • the front cover must be effective on its own and be eye-catching within a crowded bookshop and on screen for digital retailers such as Amazon.
I am going to start this project by researching the book The Wind In The Willows.
Finding different interpretations of book covers so I can get ideas.
Look at the typography
Look at colour palletes.
I will buy the book and read it so I can get a better idea of the characters and how I should portray them if i choose to have them on my cover.
Also I will sketch some rough ideas in my sketchbook for inspiration
